On this day in history ...

Today, we celebrate the peaceful transition of leadership here in the United States of America.

As our founding fathers foresaw, our system of governance, of the people, by the people, and for the people, will always provide the checks and balances necessary to prevent authoritarian belligerence and reckless disregard for the freedoms provided for under our Constitution and assured by the courage, sacrifice, and perseverance of our forebears.

In order to guarantee that this day's significance not be lost in the trash bin of history, it will be incumbent on all of us to fulfill our role assuring that common sense again becomes common practice.
